Learn A Little
03:24
|
|||
Oh so quietly come in creeping with a wild and wicked grin
And calmly sweep up all my plans and then just throw them to the wind
Cos i'm sure nothing stays the same, it seems like everyone i know
Found once they finally go to hold it that they couldn't let it go
So how about trying to learn the game? Instead of trying to change the rules
It's what you want that makes you weak and beg and grab and look a fool
When in the end what you're stuck searching for, you ain't never gonna find
No what you're looking for ain't out there, it's just pictures in your mind
With cold fate, nothing we can do but wait
Nothing we need choose or change
Just try and learn a little along the way
But that's all easy enough to know and much more hard to understand
When faced with either letting go or having it torn right from your hands
Cos there ain't nowhere you can run and think that time ain't on your heels
When you find life's too short to find it you'll settle up and make a deal
With cold fate, nothing we can do but wait
Nothing we need choose or change
Just try and learn a little along the way

There's a hundred kinds of lonely
And you'll be bound to see them all
If you can't find a friend in me
Then you won't find a friend at all
I gave you all that i could give you
Gave you everything i had
You left me standing here with nothing
You took everything and ran
Poetic license with your soul
Is just a tale to tell your friends
You told me that same old story
And i don't like the way it ends
You appeared right out of nowhere
Sure and real though you did seem
It wasn't til i tried to hold you
That i found out it's just a dream

Contentment
05:07
|
|||
I wouldn't mourn the long dark days if i was locked up on my own
At least i could dream about escape and slowly pick away the stone
But when the only wall that holds you's that you've nowhere else to go
There's just a long trodden road that says it runs much further than you can
I didn't mean to place contentment up so far off out of reach, it's just before i'm
Pretty sure i felt something so strong that now it can't be beat, that's what it seems like
And i see all the people moving but i'm stuck here in one place
I've chewed all of these routines beyond the point they've lost their taste
And i've been trying to drive away but you've had your foot stuck on the brakes ever since that one time
Restless turning back and forth and struck in never ending tides
Where all you build upon your beaches lay dismantled by and by
And you can stand and fight for ground against the waters on the rise
Until the seas get wild and the high walled waves chase you in land
I didn't mean to place contentment up so far off out of reach, it's just before i'm
Pretty sure i felt something so strong that now it can't be beat, that's what it seems like
And i see all the people moving but i'm stuck here in one place
I've chewed all of these routines beyond the point they've lost their taste
And i've been trying to drive away but you've had your foot stuck on the brakes ever since that one time

Tatters
02:49
|
|||
First i struggled at my tether
Til at last my ties were tattered and frayed
And i pulled til i got loose
But now i fear I'm drifting away
You were my prison and my shelter
Now I'm only out in the cold
And I've been so long out searching
But i can't find a place to rest my weary soul
Cos it turned out freedom's just searching
Searching for some meaning to find
And how I've ruined my body
For trying just to reconcile my mind
Now when the sun comes tomorrow
Well it will not raise me up from my bed
Cos while my body lays sleeping
I'll be keeping all these troubles from my head

Being Herd
04:30
|
|||
I'm lost since when did being heard mean just your name and not your words?
It's about the size of what you're saying not the stage you say it on
For those who throw themselves at music not for love but just to use it
Once they've had their fun they'll leave you just as empty as your song
Seems like to you it's just a verse, like nothing's real its all rehearsed
Like you don't care for where you are now only where it leads you to
And as for me it's mostly preaching, saving none of those i'm reaching
Half the time you'd find i'm guilty just like you
But it ain't me out chasing credit down the cheapest road to get it
It ain't me who claims its passion when it's fashion, fame and lust
For whats the point in being adored when noone really knows what for?
To say that everybody loves you? That's like saying noone does
See those false promises you've bought are ruining art and killing thought
And it ain't you that's on the up it's just the average coming down
Now noone cares for what things mean and half the world's off selling dreams
There ain't no artists anymore it's all just opportunists now

Contradicton
02:46
|

If there isn't contradiction don't you know you're only stuck out on one side?
When we surely should be finding out the truth instead of wrestling with our pride
And don't get stuck in all your rituals to the point you find your hands and feet are tied
When it's because of blind belief or because we think we cannot change that we're denied
You're believing in some clever words you heard somewhere and calling them your own
And so convinced of your opinion and your argument, you'll never let it go
For those who stick to one direction, it sure enough in time will lead them to a wall
But don't be afraid to change your mind, don't be afraid to change which side you fall.
It doesn't matter if it's real or if it's something i made up
Cos if it's something that i feel then to believe it is enough
But you don't believe in all you hear, why be so sure of all you see?
When if there's one thing that I'm sure, it's that there ain't no certainty

White Freightliner
03:17
|
|||
I'm going out on the highway
Listen to them big trucks whine
I'm going out on the highway
Listen to them big trucks whine
White freightliner
Won't you steal away my mind
New Mexico ain't bad lord
People there they treat you kind
New Mexico ain't bad lord
People there they treat you kind
White freightliner
Won't you steal away my mind
Now it's bad news from Houston
Half of my friends all died
Well, it's bad news from Houston
Half of my friends all died
White freightliner
Won't you steal away my mind
Oh lord I'm gonna ramble
Til I get back to where I came
Oh lord I'm gonna ramble
Til I get back to where I came
And that white freightliner's
Gonna steal away my brain

Old Man
04:24
|
|||
What day or night was it you woke and found that life had crept behind you?
Left you wearing down a memory like an old tape cassette
Maybe it's down to age and time and that's what makes you so much wiser
Maybe it's just the fear of knowing that you ain't got too long left
So tell me all about your life old man, tell me about your story
Please just try to tell me something that i can't already see
See every time i stop and ask they seem to send me some way different
And i'm starting to suspect that they're just all as lost as me
They say the ties of youth and recklessness are bound to go together
Mistaken ways of living free until that freedom's all used up
But i've known folks right near the end who say they've barely even started
And i've known folks who long before that time will say they've had enough
For all we look we only witness one small part of something bigger
Those not scared of being wrong about it don't deserve to know
Some will search their whole damned life away and still never get it figured
Some will never even look and claim they've seen it even so

December
04:04
|
|||
The snow is falling and it freezes the land
Sleep by the fire and warm your hands
But it doesn't warm a cold heart
The snow is falling and the leaves are dead
A sight to admire but you're crying instead
Cos it doesn't warm a cold heart
A new year's coming, a new start
What's your name?
The snow is falling and the leaves are dead
Sleep by the fire and warm your head
But it doesn't warm a cold heart
A new year's coming, a new start
What's your name, where do you come from?
What's your name, where do you come from?
What's your name, where do you come from?
I feel your pain, i fell in love once
In December, i thought those days were over
But i keep looking back, looking back over my shoulder for her
What's your name, where do you come from?
What's your name, where do you come from?
What's your name, where do you come from?
I feel your pain, i fell in love once in December

Leaves
06:25
|

In the plight to make us equal
Seems only losers stand to gain
Instead of climbing up they'll pull you down
Until we all end up the same
Those who's greed won't let you grow are much less dangerous
Than the ones who'll cut you down with conscience on their side
In the rush to make it righteous
And in the fight to make it fair
Well don't you tear up something beautiful
Just so we each can have our share
Those who's greed won't let you grow are much less dangerous
Than the ones who'll cut you down with conscience on their side
I may find my leaves are shaded
But i won't cut you down oh no
Cos if the high and tall can take it all
Well then it;s up to me to grow
Those who's greed won't let you grow are much less dangerous
Than the ones who'll cut you down with conscience on their side
